China Masters Super Series: PV Sindhu loses to Wang Shixghan

  • PV Sindhu lost to Chinese player Wang Shixgan of China in three hard fought sets 21-18,18-21 and 16-21 in the second round of China Masters Super Series played in China just a few moments ago. It was an excellent chance for Sindhu to seal the match in the second set, but Wang showed great character to comeback into the match and win it.

    In the first game, Wang began on a positive note taking the first two points. After that, Wang took a 5-1 lead but Sindhu came back well to reduce the gap to 4-5. At 3-5 Sindhu hit a cross court smash to earn the 4th point. At 6-4 Wang hit a forceful smash to earn the 7th point. Sindhu hit a great placement shot to earn the 6th point. It was a neck to neck battle as Sindhu equaled the score at 8-8. Wang was brilliant with her net shot. At the interval, Wang led 11-10. After the interval, Wang dominated the game and led 17-14 at one moment but Sindhu came back well into the game and earned 6 successive points to make it 20-18. Sindhu won the first game 21-18.

    In the second game, Wang again began on a good note taking first two points. Sindhu came back and equaled the score at 2-2. Sindhu played some excellent badminton on the net and smashes. Sindhu forced Wang back. Wang made a lot of mistakes and was trailing 3-7. At the interval, Sindhu led 11-6. After the interval, Sindhu was leading 13-7 but Wang showed her character and took 8 successive points to take a 15-13 lead. Sindhu tried to come back into the match from 15-18 reduced the gap to 18-19. Wang held her nerve and took the second game 21-18.

    In the deciding game, both players fought for each point taking alternate points till the score read 8-7 in favor of Sindhu. Wang led 10-9 and then took the next point for the 11-9 lead at the interval. After the interval, Sindhu equaled the scored at 12-12 and then 13-12 lead. Wang played some excellent badminton and from 14-14 the Chinese player 3 successive points for the 17-14 lead. The Chinese player forced Sindhu to make errors and finally won the game 21-16.
