Indian men edge past Malaysia to enter semi finals

Indian men defeated Malaysia in the quarterfinals of the Badminton Asia Championship at the Gachibowli Stadium, Hyderabad just a few moments ago. It was an exciting match between these two teams but India held on their nerves to seal the match.

In the first singles, K Srikanth took on Zulfiki. In the first game, Srikanth dominated right from the start and never allowed the Malaysian player to come back into the match. At the interval, Srikanth was leading 11-8. After the interval, Srikanth continued his domination and won the first set 21-14 easily. In the second game, the Malaysian player got off to a flying start taking a 5-0 lead but Srikanth played some excellent badminton and leveled the score at 10-10. At the interval, Zulkfki lead 11-10. After the interval, the Malaysian player took 2 more points to lead 13-11 before Srikanth lead 16-14. Srikanth took 4 points in succession to take the second game and set 21-15. India took 1-0 lead in the game.

In the second match, Manu Attri and Sumeeth Reddy took on Shen Low and Meng Tan. In the first game, the Indian pair began off to a great start taking a 4-2 lead. The Indian pair always dominated the opponent. The Indian pair led 11-5. After the interval, the Indian pair dominated and won the first game 21-10 easily. In the second game, both pairs started taking alternate points to equal at 6-6. At the interval, the Malaysian pair led 11-10. After the interval, both pairs again took alternate points but the Malaysian pair held their nerves and won the second set 22-20. In the third game, the Indian pair dominated the game right from the start and took a commanding 7-2 lead. At the interval Manu Attri and Sumeeth Reddy took a commanding 11-3 lead. After the interval, the Malaysian pair from being 4-13 down tried to come back into the match but the Indian pair held their nerves to win the 21-16. It gave India 2-0 lead.

In the third game, Ajay Jayaram took on Iskander. In the first game, Iskander began to a good start taking a 4-1 lead. Ajay Jayaram showed great character to reduce the gap to 7-10 and equaled the score at 10-10. At the interval, Jayaram led 11-10. After the interval, Jayaram continued his domination and won the first game 21-17. In the second and third games, Iskander showed great resolve and took the second game 12-21. Iskander took the third game 21-16. Malaysia reduced the gap to 1-2.

 

In the fourth match Pranav, Chopra/ Dewalkar took on Oen/ Tei. In the first game, the Malaysian pair started the game on an aggressive note and dominated the game right from the start. At the interval, the Malaysian pair led 11-4. After the interval, the Malaysian pair dominated and won the first set 21-14. In the second game, the Indian pair came back strongly. Right from the start the Indian pair took a commanding lead. At the interval, the Indian pair led 11-6. After the interval, the Indian pair played some excellent smashes and won the second set 21-14. In the third and deciding game, the Malaysian some excellent badminton and never allowed the Indian pair to come back into the match. At the interval, the Malaysian pair was leading 11-6. After the interval, the Malaysian pair continued his domination and won the third set 21-12. The tie was equaled at 2-2.

In the deciding tie, HS Prannoy took on Soo. In the first game, HS Prannoy dominated Soo right from the start and took a 7-2 lead before Soo came back to reduce the gap. At the interval Prannoy lead 11-8. After the interval, Prannoy dominated and won the first set 21-12. In the second game, HS Prannoy started on a positive note taking a 9-5 lead. At the interval HS Prannoy led 11-8. After the interval, Soo came back and equaled the score at 11-11. Both players fought for each point and equaled the score till 20-20. HS Prannoy held his nerve and won the second set 22-20. With this win, the Indian men enter into the semi-finals.
