In the latest BWF rankings, India’s Saina Nehwal and K Srikanth have climbed up to number 4 in female and male categories respectively. It is a great achievement to see two Indian players in top 5 rankings after such a long time. They have proved that they are not far behind Chinese. P Kashayp was the other male Indian badminton player who came close of breaking into the top 5 when he reached a carrier high of number 6 in April Last year.

K Srikanth who started this year in the ranking of 40’s, has performed brilliantly winning the China Masters, reaching the semi-finals of Hong Kong open and Dubai Super series finals. He beat Lin Dan in the China Master finals which would his biggest achievement in his carrier so far.

He joined the elite club of former badminton players consisting of Prakash Padukone and Pulliea Gopichand who were number 1 and 4 respectively in the past. The top spot in rankings is taken by China’s Chen Long followed by suspended Lee Chong Wei, Jan Jorgesen of Denmark is ahead of Srikanth. The promising male shuttler from India has proved that with lot of hard work and determination one can succeed in a big way.

On the other hand India’s top player Saina Nehwal has been in good form too in the year 2014. She won the Australian open, China Masters and Indian open. She was a part of the team which won the bronze medal in Uber Cup, Asian games.

In the female section the top 3 in the rankings are Chinese namely, Lu Xurei, Wang Sxighan and Wang Yighan. This is a big achievement for her as she has done the country proud. The main aim for Saina Nehwal is to become the number 1 ranked player and also to win more medals in the year 2015.

Both of the Indian player’s must work on their fitness, stamina and agility. India’s badminton has done well in 2014 especially these two Indian players who have earned their spot in the top 5 rankings. The other players like Ms PV Sindhu, P Kashyap, HS Pranoy have also done during 2014.

I wish that these Indian badminton players would perform exceptionally well in the coming year and win laurels for the country.
