Saina Nehwal through to the quarter finals of Asian Badminton Championship

Saina Nehwal beat Okhuara in a grueling three setter 21-14, 10-21, 21-10 in the third round of the Asian Badminton Championship played in China. It was an excellent performance by the number 1 ranked player in the World who played some excellent shots to come through.

In the first game, Saina Nehwal began off to a positive note taking a 7-4 lead. At the interval, it was 11-9 in favor of Saina. Then Saina took 6 consecutive points to take the first game 21-14.

In the second game, Okhuara made a fantastic comeback. Okhuara did not give Saina a chance to fight back and a 8-3 lead. At the interval, it was 11-5 in favor of Okhuara. After the interval, Okhuara never allowed Saina to get back into the game and took the second set 21-10.

In the deciding game, both the players started off well with some great strokes. At the interval, it was 11-7. But after that Saina took 9 successive points to make it 18-10. Saina won the third set 21-10. The match went for 1 hour and 7 minutes.

Saina will face Tzu Ying Tai in the quarter-finals. In other results, PV Sindhu defeated Teng Luk U in straight sets 21-8, 21-9 to move into quarter-finals.
