Drugs, dopes and devastations : 15 Amazing careers ruined in Sports

Being a renowned sports star is not a matter of joke. Uneven schedules, maintaining fitness, handling pressure and putting in one's 100% everytime all at once make it somewhat a task. Some take help from seniors to manage things, but some just take a wrong turn to end up their career prematured faling prey to different odds, including drugs or alcohol. Neither are these things allowed for sports person to intake, nor do they prove to be helping. Amongst many careers that got destroyed due to these curses of science, here are 15 names who never revived their past glory 15. Art Schlichter The legendary American football quarterback, who could make it real big with his talent, ended up early and how? The player got horribly addicted to drugs and eventually went on to steal money to support his addiction and ended up in jail. 14. Steve Howe A name that the Baseball world can never forget is Steve Howe. He got addicted to various banned substances and was a frequent visitor of rehabs. Things went worse and he had to call it a quit very early. His death was as mysterious as his deeds as he died of his truck flipping over, filled with drugs. 13. Allen Iverson A basketball player, who became the favourite of a lot just to end all up in a mess. Engaged in drugs and gambling issues, he bade goodbye to his promising career as early as in the mid thirties. 12. Vin Baker  He got inducted into the National Basketball Association and then it was all about alcoholism. The champ kept on boozing frantically and put on weight losing his quickness and ended up having a much underrated career. 11. Len Bias One of the finest basketball players, Len Bias' career was gone even before anyone could do anything about it, as he died of cocaine overdose suddenly after being drafted for Boston Celtics, at the early age of 23. 10. John Daly A pretty successful golfer as he was, Daly could have earned a lot more respect and acheivements after his name just opposite to how he is considered. The talented golfer ended his career getting more than addicted to excessive alcohol. 9. Ben Johnson After winning 2 silver medals in commonwealth games, a bronze and a gold in olympics, Johnson had to return all his accreditions after he was detected positive in a doping test run after his gold medal win. Though he later tried to make a comeback, the Canadian athlete was again busted of doping. 8. Marian Jones Another similar story came from this athlete from United States while despite of having a brilliant career ruined it all by herself by taking enhancing drugs. She won many silver and gold medals in world meets but had to return them all after being accused and proved of doping charges.7. George Best Known for his superb skills with football, George Best could actually become the best but probably just fell short. The Manchester United legend took alcohol so seriously that it primarily left him with loans and eventually cost him his life. 6. Diego Maradona Though considered as one of the best players, Maradona is believed to have achieved even more and done many more wonders with the football if he hadn't been involved so much into drugs and alcohol. The legend got banned from play during the 1994 post failing a drug test and also had serious health issues for his cocaine intake. 5. David Murray The son of West Indies cricketing legend Sir Everton Weekes, the one to reach 1000 runs the fastest in test cricket. He was a fantastic keeper himself who could play more than the 19 tests and 10 ODIs that he played.  At the early age of 12, he got addicted to cigarettes, which went on to getting addicted to marijuana and cocaine.He was soon replaced by Jeff Dujon, after which he decided to go on a rebel tour to South Africa. This tour cost him a lifetime ban. He was later found peddling drugs for his living. 4. Jesse Ryder After missing many team meetings and practices due to overdose of alcohol, Ryder got a ban from cricket after testing positive for drugs. A prolific batsman as he was, he tried to make a comeback but again failed because of his injuries which are suspected to be affecting more because of the drug and alcohol abuses. 3. Maurice Odumbe The game changer for Kenyan cricket, who was being considered as the best the side could produce during his starting days, failed miserably as he made his progress more towards drug addiction. Odumbe eventually left cricket and limelight and became bankrupt. Recently caught up, he confessed to be living like a beggar. 2. Mariano Puerta A promising tennis player with rankings below 20 fall prey to doping as he was tested positive to after 2005 French open and eventually lost all the money and ranking points he acquired. He got a ban for eight years as punishment which marked the end of his career. 1. Lance Armstrong But the most devastating story definitely came from Lance Armstrong. The winner of 7 tour-de-France titles, Olympic bronze and a huge fanbase for making a comeback from cancer and emerging as a champion, Lance disheartened the world while he admitted of doping before the events. This made him get untitled of all his wins mentioned earlier and remarked an unexpected dawn to a cycling legend.
