10 Players Who Might Retire At The End Of The Current IPL Season

The Indian Premier League is in its 10th editions but there are a number of players who have been entertaining the crowds in the country from the start of the tournament back in 2008.

There are a number of T20 specialists that are set to make this edition of the IPL all the more interesting but it is hard to forget the veteran stars who have helped their teams immensely over the years.

A number of players currently in the IPL are well past their prime as cricketers but have been incredible in their services to the IPL franchises over the years.

However, this season might see some of the biggest stars in the sports call it quits for the domestic T20 tournament. Here are ten such players who might not be playing in the next edition of the competition:

Brad Hogg (Unsold) – 46:

The oldest player in the world of cricket at the moment, Hogg is still going strong. He was superb for the Melbourne outfit in the Big Bash and was a part of the IPL auction this year. However, he went unsold, with none of the teams ready to splash the cash on him. And at 46, he may well consider quitting the league after the end of the campaign.

Pravin Tambe (Sunrisers Hyderabad) – 45:

The second oldest player in the IPL, Tambe moved to SRH earlier this year and is yet to play a game. He was in great form last season, helping the Lions to some important victories. But he is 45, and may not be able to continue playing for too long. This might be his last year in the Indian Premier League.

Brad Haddin (Unsold) – 39:

The Australian keeper has been busy in the Pakistan domestic T20 league before the IPL and was expecting to be picked up by a team in the auction. However, he remained unsold and at 39, he may not be in the game next season.

Zaheer Khan (Delhi Daredevils) – 38:

The current skipper of the Daredevils side, Zaheer Khan is arguably one of the best bowlers that India has ever produced. He has been a revelation in the competition playing for RCB and MI before DD and stands as one of the most reliable players this season. But at 38, this could well be his last season.

Chris Gayle (Royal Challengers Bangalore) -37:

The hard-hitting West Indian is right up there with the best in the business in the shortest format and has been terrific in his time in India and has provided some of the best innings seen in the competition. He is currently an important part of the RCB squad but might not be there next campaign.

Ashish Nehra (Sunrisers Hyderabad) – 37:

Having played for a host of clubs in his time in the IPL, Nehra helped the Hyderabad franchise to the title last season and is an important part of the squad this time around. But at 37, he may not be playing for too long.

Mitchell Johnson (Unsold) – 35:

Having Last played for the KIXP, Johnson was not picked by any of the teams in the auction this year and he remains unsold till date. Though he is a part of the Scorchers in the Big Bash, he may well think about hanging up his boots in the IPL.

Munaf Patel (Unsold) – 33

The former Indian fast bowler has been without a club since 2013 when he left the Mumbai Indians and was unsold yet again this year. He is still 33 and might have some cricket left in him but it seems like he is not wanted in the IPL, which might see him call quits.

Ross Taylor (Unsold) – 33:

The New Zealand star was also unsold in the IPL auction this year but he has been in decent form for Sussex and St Lucia recently. He is not wanted in the IPL at the moment and it is hard to see him find a team next season. So it might be best for him to end his IPL career.

Irfan Pathan (Unsold) – 32:

The exciting all-rounder has not been able to break into the Indian team anymore and was unsold in the 2017 IPL auction. He played for the Supergiants in the previous campaign but is now without a club. Though he was important for most clubs he played for, he may not be in the competition next season.
