1st Test, Day 2: Top five moments of England vs Pakistan

It was an exciting day on the 2nd day of 1st test match between England and Pakistan played at Lords. England dismissed Pakistan for 339. England were looking good but Yasir Shah’s five-wicket haul pegged back England team. At the end of day 2, England ended on 253 for 7.

  1. England team cleaning Pakistan tail cheaply

The Pakistan team started day 2 on 282 for 6. England team had other ideas and dismissed the Pakistan team for 339. Sarfaraz Khan and Misbah UL Haq put on 26 runs. Sarfraz Khan was dismissed 25. Misbah Ul Haq who was well set got out for 114. The tail enders did not contribute too much to the team. Woakes and Broad were the wicket takers which restricted Pakistan to 339.

2. Root and Cook brilliant partnership steadied the England innings

England innings got off to a worse start losing the wicket of Alex Hales for 6. After that, Cook and Root attacked the Pakistan bowlers. Both of them took toll of bad bowling from Pakistan bowlers. Root and Cook put on 110 runs for the second wicket which steadied the England innings. Root and Cook played wonderful strokes on both sides of the wicket. Cook completed his half century during the partnership.

3. Pakistan bowlers coming back flurry of wickets

After a great partnership between Root and Cook, the Pakistan bowlers made inroads into the England batting line. Root was dismissed for 48. Then Vince, Ballance went in quick succession. Cook played a wonderful knock of 81 before being dismissed by Mohammad Aamir. Bairstow was dismissed for 29. Ali also played well for his 23 but was dismissed.

4. Yasir Shah doing the bulk of the damage

Yasir Shah was brought into the attack by Pakistan captain Misbah Ul Haq in the 22nd over. He struggled for few overs but picked the wicket of Root with a brilliant delivery. After he picked the wickets of Ballance and Vince to put England team on the backfoot. When Bairstow was looking dangerous, Yasir Shah bowled him. Moeen Ali was also dismissed as he failed to read the ball. He bowled 25 overs and gave away just 64 runs picking 5 wickets which put England on the back foot.

5. Woakes contributing with bat

Chris Woakes came to the bat at the fall of Bairstow wicket. The score for England at that moment was 193 for 6. Chris Woakes and Moeen Ali steadied the innings with a good partnership before Moeen Ali was dismissed for 23. Chris Woakes smashed 4 boundaries and remained not out on 31. England would be hoping that Chris Woakes could help England to get closer to Pakistan total.
