Coach: Stephan Fleming

Strengths:

  •          A well balanced team with more capable All-Rounders.
  •          The side is exceptional in fielding with the likes of Jadeja, McCullum, Smith, Bravo and du Plessis in it.
  •          Chennai Super Kings are one of the sides that have two match winners as their main spinners.
  •          Their explosive top order separates them from other teams.

Weakness:

  •          Chennai does not have a good history in the Champions League T20.
  •          Not playing their matches in Chennai should worry the team management.

Players to watch out for:

Dwayne Smith:

Dwayne Smith was Chennai’s trump card in the 2014 IPL. He along with McCullum got off Chennai Super Kings to a flying start majority of the times. The West Indian is capable of clearing the boundary with ease. He takes his time to settle in and once he is settled, the opponents will have a bad time out there in the field. Apart from his batting, he is a decent bowler and an electrifying fielder. Chennai will hope Smith will fire once again and take the team to the title.

R Ashwin

R Ashwin has been Chennai’s trump card over the years. The offie is a vital cog wheel in the team. He not only picks wickets at regular intervals but also contains the run rate and put the batsmen in the backfoot. He often bowls in the power play’s and will apply brakes on the opposition’s scoring. In the company of Jadeja and the matches taking place in India, he is a threat to any opposition.

X-Factor:

Chennai Super Kings missed the services of Dwayne Bravo in the IPL as the Trinidadian got injured in the very first match of the tournament. His absence was clearly felt as Chennai’s team balance got a hit. Apart from his batting abilities, Chennai missed Bravo as a bowler. Bravo is consistent and difficult to score against in the slog overs. As a batsman, Bravo can play according to the situation of the game. In the slog overs, Bravo is a deadly batsman. With Bravo returning to the side, Chennai will look to regain confidence and go all the way in the tournament unlike the IPL.

Possible Playing XI:

Dwayne Smith, Brendon McCullum, Suresh Raina, Faf du Plessis, MS Dhoni, Dwayne Bravo, Ravindra Jadeja, R Ashwin, Ishwar Pandey, Ashish Nehra, Mohit Sharma
