2017 ICC Champion Trophy: Video – Bangladesh Rewarded With Five Penalty Runs
Nov 2, 2023 at 3:39 PM
Bangladesh cricket team was awarded with five penalty runs during their innings in the 40th over when one of the throws from Yuvraj Singh came towards MS Dhoni and he did a run-out attempt. By mistake, the ball made a contact with hit gloves lying near the stumps and the moment when it contacted the gloves, five runs were added to Bangladesh’s total which resulted in Ashwin leaking 10 runs in the over, instead of five.
Those five runs which came in a weird way were quite surprising as in past, we have seen Dhoni many times attempting these type of run outs but never ever this sort of thing happened in his career but today, it was a bit surprising when the ball went onto make contact with Dhoni’s gloves.
The moment umpire signalled for five penalty runs, skipper Virat Kohli was seen unhappy with that as already, Bangladesh was moving towards a defendable total and with this, it was added a bonus for them.

In the end, Bangladesh posted a total of 264 on the board, which looked a defendable total. Indian openers have to provide a good start to the team so the defending champions can chase the target. If openers fail to do the job, then Indian team might find itself in trouble today.
