2017 ICC Champions Trophy: Bangladesh Vs Australia – Match Prediction

As Bangladesh had made a significant mark in the One-day International format of late while achieving their best sixth spot on the ICC ranking, the Mashrafe Mortaza-led side would be itching to face star-studded Australian team which has a very balanced unit on an offer, as they were termed as favourite contenders for the coveted event.

After participating in the 2006 edition held in India, it’s the first time the dark horses are participating in the eighth edition after a prolonged gap of over 10 years which dramatically saw the Tigers leapfrogging World Cup winning teams with the likes of Sri Lanka, Pakistan and the WINDIES, referring to the West Indies, as the board has changed its name following rebranding performances.

In 2006, Bangladesh was knocked out in the qualifying round after losing out their games against the WINDIES and Sri Lanka. Earlier, Bangladesh started off well in their tournament opener against England while crossing past the 300-mark.

However, it was their inexperienced bowling line-up which has let them down on the placid surface in the United Kingdom. While talking about both the international teams we would also talk about which team has better chances based on the conditions followed by momentum they are carrying which includes the team combination in nutshell.

However, Steven Smith-led side Australia would be aiming to clinch the first win of the 2017 ICC Champions Trophy after having a washed-out game against arch-rivals New Zealand at the Edgbaston on June 2.

Meanwhile, showing a promise with the bat, Bangladesh would be relying on their top-order batsman before expecting something special from the bowlers.

Overview:

While talking about Australia, they have been consistent in this format and would rely on their quality batting and bowling line-up. On the other side, Mortaza would be eyeing to make a change or so, in order to boost the bowling department which looked off-colour against batting heavy England which further saw batting mainstay Joe Root cracking a significant century to help hosts by claiming an eight-wicket win.

However, having pulled remarkable wins in the recent past, Bangladesh is wary of Australia’s combination which is bolstered by pace potent weapon, as the Tigers has shown the tough character and are capable of ruining the party for big teams.

Moreover, Australia looked rusty with the bat while chasing the target of 292 against New Zealand, as their score read 53 for three in nine overs when skies opened up in Edgbaston which further saw one-point was shared each.

While plugging the loopholes, Australia would be an all different side against Bangladesh on June 6, as it’s going to be the day-night affair.

Tracking The Strength:

Australia has boasted about their quartet of pace attack Mitchell Starc, Josh Hazlewood and Pat Cummins which further includes James Pattinson, who missed out a rain-hit match against the Black Caps.

The Men in Yellow would be heavily relying on Mitchell Starc and Josh Hazlewood early on, who was exceptional against Kane Williamson-led side when he picked six-wicket haul. Moreover, John Hastings with experience of playing in the English County would play a crucial role for Australia in their group games which further adds a variation to the bowling line-up.

Talking about Bangladesh, they have got the aggression and temperament to rely on, which further shows their experienced campaigners have been leading from the front.

On the batting front, Australian batsmen would be itching to score the bulk of runs at the top which includes David Warner, Aaron Finch and Steven Smith in particular. Moreover, Australian squad is blessed with the power-hitting sensation which further includes Glenn Maxwell and Marcus Stoinis, as Moises Henriques would be trying hard to give his best with the bat and a ball, respectively.

Match Prediction:

After seeing gritty hundred from Tamim Iqbal and Josh Hazlewood’s six-for, it’s always fascinating to see players giving out their best against opponents in the gentleman’s games.

While talking about the technique, Bangladesh seems to have made considerable improvements, whereas, they have a task to cut out, in order to spend quality time at the crease and that is basics one has to do in the 50-over format.

As both teams would give hard-fought battle with Bangladesh’s chances seemed to have faded a little, put Australia right up front to make their count in the ICC’s mega event. Bangladesh would be relying on flamboyant left-handed batsman Tamim Iqbal, wicket-keeper batsman Mushfiqur Rahim and top-notch all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan, whereas, Australia has availed the services of power-hitting sensations Chris Lynn and Travis Head at the top.

It would be interesting to see how Australia will tackle Bangladesh spinners, the team further boasts about rookie spinner Mehdi Hasan Miraz. As the 300-mark has become a norm in the 50-over format, England conditions seemed to have favoured batsmen in the past couple of season, but the overcast conditions would definitely help the fast bowlers for what Australians would be ready to unleash their pace battery.

We’re expecting a close contest though it seems a highly improbable, but the Steven Smith’s unit would come as winners in the fifth match of the 18-day tournament.
