After an exile of 11 years, Bangladesh has finally qualified for the Champions Trophy and the newcomers will be up against none other than hosts England to kick of the Champions Trophy 2017 campaign.
The pressure will be on Bangladesh automatically, looking at their performance in the warm-up games of Champions Trophy.
They let their first game slip of from their hands against Pakistan. Tigers were in a comfortable position at a stage, as Pakistan had an uphill task to chase 93 runs in just 44 deliveries with two wickets in hand and Bangladesh bowlers failed to make an impact leaking all the required runs against Pakistan’s lower order batsmen.
In the very next game, they were bundled out on a total of 84 against India, which was the biggest disappointment, as there batting was exposed fully exposed in these conditions. They have to emulate their performance of Ireland where they defeated New Zealand as well.
It seems like they haven’t assimilated to the conditions here and they might struggle on the tour if the continue their low-key performance now.
Tamim Iqbal, who was rested for the second warm-up game against India will look to continue his form and lead the team from the front and show he is the leader of the pack. Other batsmen like Imrul Kayes, skipper Mushfiqur Rahim and Shakib Al Hasan will have to step up in order to provide the stability to the team.
If their batting fails to click at the time, then it might be impossible for their bowlers to get the team back on the track, as neither they have someone like Mitchell Starc or Umesh Yadav who can turn the game on their own.
Though they have experience of Mashrafe Mortaza, but, there is always an injury issue hanging upon on his head and Mustafizur Rahman is still in starting phase of his career and can easily get subdued under pressure, which can also go in other direction.
All in all, the success of the team heavily depends on their batting line-up and if their batsmen fail to deliver, then it is comfortable to say that the team will easily lose the track and surrender in front of the strong team like England.
Keeping the performance in this team in mind, the captain will have to make smart picks in order to get the job done.
