2017 ICC Champions Trophy: Edgbaston Stadium Is A Big Player On The Global Cricket – Andy Street

The metropolitan county of West Midland Mayor Andy Street has praised the efforts of Edgbaston staff while expressing the satisfaction over the work they put in to run major matches smoothly and revealed Edgbaston Cricket Ground would entertain the die-hard fans and keep ties strong while bringing more matches in the city – to make it major fascination spot for the gentleman’s game.

“The cricket brings in so many people from around the UK [United Kingdom] and the world and leaves them wanting to come back as soon as possible,” Street told in his interview with Edgbaston.com

An enriching experience for the cricket fanatics, Edgbaston has witnessed four matches so far out of their five scheduled matches in overall 15 fixtures of ICC Champions Trophy which further registered a record turnout of 24,227 in the iconic stadium when two Asian giants India-Pakistan faced in their June 4 fixture.

“The ground has a wonderful atmosphere with spectators who are partisan but also have that humour and energy that makes Edgbaston unique,” Street said.

Street, who was nominated as a Mayor in May, revealed the stadium will maintain its cordial atmosphere for the people and add a bond will help the region in the field of sport, as it has been the major venue to benefit one and all.

“Edgbaston Stadium is a big player on the global cricket stage but hosting major matches there, while bringing top-class sportsmen to the city, also brings so much more to the region. It is a world-class experience,” Street asserted.

Talking about the re-construction, Street stated it is a wonderful experience to watch quality cricket matches at the venue like Edgbaston while stating such atmosphere can’t be expected on other grounds.

“The recent redevelopment turned the stadium into a bowl, a real amphitheatre which generates an atmosphere that, with respect, you just don’t get at other grounds,” Street added.

Street, who has praised the transport services and easy-to-make into the stadium with such warmth believes West Midlands and Birmingham has stepped-up to provide quality services to the visitors in general.

Street is hopeful that world’s best teams would compete at the Edgbaston before Chief Executive of Warwickshire Cricket Club Neil Snowball was glad to hear about the unconditional support from the Mayor.

“We very much appreciate Andy’s support and his commitment to helping us keep Edgbaston’s place at the top table of world cricket venues, with all the economic benefits that brings for the region,” Snowball maintained while appreciating the back of Street.

Coming to the conclusion, Snowball has termed the effort as collaborative work from the Birmingham City and the Combined Authority of West Midlands while expecting more support in the foreseeable future.
