2017 ICC Champions Trophy: England Vs Pakistan Match Prediction

On one side, there is a giant force like England whereas, on the other, there is a team like Pakistan, who have qualified for the semi-final by fighting tooth and nail. England has decimated each and every team they have faced in the tournament, while on the other side, Pakistan has struggled to come this far. It’s a stage, where all the past performances will be of no use and the team who will perform on the day, will get to the next round.

Given the form, England looks the favourites in this game but going into the game, none of the team can be rated as minnows or favourites.

Overview:

England:

The runner-up of 2013 Champions Trophy, England, has all the bases covered. First; talking of batting line up, barring Jason Roy, each and every batsman has done well to carry the team and coming back to Roy, skipper Eoin Morgan has confirmed his exclusion from the playing XI for the semi-final game. A blistering start from Alex Hales will be important for the team. His main job will be to see the new ball bowled by Mohammad Amir and Junaid Khan, who can trouble the home side.

Coming next to Joe Root, the Test skipper has done well in the tournament and in this knockout, it’s an added responsibility on his shoulders. In addition, Eoin Morgan and Ben Stokes would also be vying to walk on the same track to continue winning streak of their team.

Talking of the second aspect i.e. bowling, their bowlers have been right on the money since the start of the tournament. In the very first game when they leaked 305 runs against Bangladesh, they looked a weak department but batsmen chased it down to show that the track was not for the bowlers.

Pakistan –

A loss to kick off the campaign and this side was already ruled out of the tournament in the minds of many people. They made a comeback in the game against South Africa and in the ultimate quarter-final against Sri Lanka, they faced the biggest scare as fall of wickets jeopardised their hopes of going ahead. Thanks to Mohammad Amir who stayed at the crease with skipper Sarfraz Ahmed till the end to see his team getting past the desired total.

Barring first game, bowling line-up of this side looks a settled one with Junaid Khan coming back after missing out in the first game. They learnt a lot of lessons from the loss against India and also dropped Ahmed Shehzad and his replacement – Fakhar Zaman has done well. In short, it was a reality check for them which they needed to realise the strength of the players that they had on the bench.

Learning from some more mistakes which they committed against Sri Lanka, it will help them to get it rectified before going in the semi-final against unconquerable England.

Tracking the strength:

England – Oodles of talent and reliable players plus the performing elements, each and every face in their side is the strength of England cricket team. Talking of big hitting to changing gears as per the situation, England has that talent to win the game for the side. Their bowling line-up too is a quality lot, which is the main strength of this team.

Pakistan – The bowling department is the only thing they can cheer for as more they try to get the side on the track, more the batsmen and fielders pull them down. Bowling will be the key for them going in the game, who will have the main responsibility to win it for their side.

Match prediction –

England looks the obvious favourites even before the start of the game due to the main reason that they are yet put a foot wrong ahead. On the other side, Pakistan’s way has been full of difficulties. They have either rode on performances from a handful of players or luck that they have proceeded to this level. Pakistan is a difficult side to be rated as favourites and hence, England will win the game and get a spot in the finals of Champions Trophy 2017.
