2017 ICC Champions Trophy: Hashim Amla Eclipses Virat Kohli To Become Fastest Batsman To 25 ODI Centuries

The batting prodigy Hashim Amla, who made batting ridiculously easy after bursting into the International scene, has now become the fastest batsman to reach 25 centuries in One-day Internationals on Saturday, after going past Indian skipper and batting star Virat Kohli.

The right-handed batsman Amla achieved this remarkable feat against Sri Lanka, in his 151st innings in overall 154th ODI during the Proteas opener of the Group B game, in the ongoing 2017 ICC Champions Trophy at The Oval.

In January 2016, Kohli achieved the milestone against Australia in the fourth ODI at Canberra, to went past the oldest record of his national team hero Sachin Tendulkar, who achieved the feat in 1998 in his 234th innings of his illustrious career in the 50-over format.

However, the 28-year-old batting sensation Kohli achieved the feat in his 162nd innings.

Playing calm and composed innings, Amla scored 103 off 115 balls, as his innings was laced with five boundaries and two sixes before he ran himself out which further saw wicket-keeper Niroshan Dickwella whipping off the bails in time to find the latter short of his crease.

One of the consistent batsmen in the world cricket, Amla has played a significant role for South Africa at the top by giving his best with the bat. As he notched up his 25th ODI hundred, the Kennington Oval applauded the resilient Durban-born batsman.

Whereas Kohli took 162 innings to reach 25th hundred, Amla achieved the mark as it has the considerable gap of nine innings between the two celebrated players. The Little Master Sachin Tendulkar is placed third on the list, as he achieved the feat in his 232 innings.

Moreover, on the fourth number, it’s former Australian skipper Ricky Ponting, who has scored his 25th hundred in 279 innings.

The 34-year-old Amla, who has scored 7,032 runs at the staggering average of 50.22 in last 153 ODIs, has been listed at the top among veterans of the game. The swashbuckling batsman and ex-Sri Lankan captain Sanath Jayasuriya took 373 innings, as another Lankan Lion Kumar Sangakkara took 379 innings to register his 25th hundred.
