2017 ICC Champions Trophy: Rohit Sharma To Miss First Warm-Up Game?

Opening batsman Rohit Sharma, it seems, will miss India’s first warm-up game ahead of the upcoming ICC Champions Trophy. With just a few days remaining before the eighth edition of the Champions Trophy commences, the preparation of each team is on full swing but Rohit Sharma is still in India to attend his cousin marriage.

Earlier reports had claimed that the Mumbai batsman had requested the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) to grant him a few days leave to attend a cousin’s wedding and the board had subsequently agreed.

“Rohit Sharma had made his request a long time back. So the BCCI agreed to the request,” a BCCI official was quoted as saying by The Indian Express.

Along with Rohit, Kedar Jadhav’s departure was also delayed due to visa problems but both the players were expected to join the team ahead of the first warm-up game against New Zealand on May 28.

“His (Jadhav) visa is cleared now and he is expected to leave on Friday. We waited for it earlier but nothing happened till late on Wednesday evening. Both players will be available for the first warm-up game on May 28,” the official had added.

However, Rohit Sharma’s recent Instagram post suggests that the 30-year old is still in the country and is very much likely to miss Sunday’s game against the Black Caps. The right-handed batsman, who recently led Mumbai Indians to a record third Indian Premier League title, posted a picture of himself alongside his wife on Saturday (May 27), enjoying a meal at the wedding.

Meanwhile, the BCCI has also confirmed that Yuvraj Singh will miss the game against New Zealand owing to a viral fever. India’s next warm-up game is against Bangladesh on May 30 before the Men in Blue begin their title-defence against Pakistan on June 4.
