With India’s top-order coming to a cropper against Pakistan’s formidable bowling lineup, MS Dhoni was probably the last man to keep India in the hunt in pursuit of a daunting 338. However, the former India skipper too followed suit and was dismissed for only four to leave the Men in Blue reeling at 54 for five in the ongoing Champions Trophy final.
India got off to a disastrous start with Mohammad Amir sending back Rohit Sharma for a duck in the very first over. To make the matters worse for the defending champions, Amir dismissed Kohli for five in his next over to deal a huge blow to India’s hopes of chasing down the improbable total.
The left-arm pacer was not done yet and struck once again, this time removing another in-form batsman Shikhar Dhawan to reduce India to 33 for three. Shadab Khan then accounted for Yuvraj Singh to pile more misery on the defending champions. The match was looking as good as over but Dhoni’s presence had kept India’s slim hopes alive. However, the 35-year old also failed to bail India out of trouble, as he soon his joined his teammates in the pavilion to all but end India’s hopes of winning the title for a record third time.
Looking to pull a short delivery from Hasan Ali, Dhoni only managed to hit it as far as Imad Wasim at deep mid-wicket.
Here is a clip of Dhoni’s dismissal:
