2017 ICC Champions Trophy: Watch: MS Dhoni And Virat Kohli Burst Into Laughter After Former Gets A Reprieve

With just 189 runs on the board against the reigning ICC Champions Trophy India, New Zealand needed a great start with the ball to pull off an unlikely win in the ongoing warm-up tie. And they got the good start when Tim Southee dismissed Ajinkya Rahane for 7. Shikhar Dhawan and Virat Kohli then put India on the path to victory with a 68-run partnership but Dhawan and Dinesh Karthik’s dismissal in quick succession with 104 runs on the board gave the Black Caps a glimmer of hope.
But then again India had two of its most faithful batsmen- Kohli and MS Dhoni- in the middle and the match was very much titled in the Men in Blue’s favour. But the Kiwis were not ready to throw in the towel yet. With Virat Kohli well-set at one end, New Zealand targeted new-comer MS Dhoni and their ploy against the former India skipper nearly paid off. The New Zealand bowlers constantly bowled slower deliveries outside the off-stump to Dhoni and the 35-year old could not contain himself from going for the shot. In one such attempt, he hit a flat shot towards the sweeper cover off a slow and a wide delivery from Trent Boult and the shot went straight into the hands of Colin de Grandhomme. However, the New Zealand all-rounder palmed the ball over the boundary rope much to the surprise of his skipper Kane Williamson who could not believe his teammate’s attempt and was seen sporting a smile out of disbelief.
On the other hand, Dhoni and Kohli also knew that the former was nearly caught in the trap set by the Kiwis and were seen wearing a wry smile after Grandhomme dropped a sitter.
