Second Test match: Pakistan v Sri Lanka Day 2 report


  • The Sri Lankans resumed their innings on day 2 at 70 for 1. Silva and Sangakara started slowly getting runs in singles and hitting the bad balls away for boundaries. The pair put on 28 runs on the day before Sangakara was dismissed for 34 when the team score was at 98. The next man in Thiramane looked out of sorts and scored only 7 runs as he was dismissed by Yasir Shah. The score at that moment was 119. After that Mathews and Silva have looked good. Silva remained not out on 64 and Mathews was on 11 not out. Sri Lanka led Pakistan by 9 runs at lunch.

    In the second session, Mathews and Silva began off to a positive start scoring runs at a good pace. Silva played a solid innings of 80 and was run out at the score of 191. Meanwhile, Mathews was dropped by Yasir Shah. After losing Silva , the Sri Lankan team lost two more quick wickets of Chandimal and Vithanage. The score at that moment was 202 for 6. Mathews and Prasad then put on a  7th wicket partnership of 73 crucial runs. At the end of 2nd session Sri Lanka scored 231 for 6 with a lead of 93 and four wickets to spare. Mathews was not out on 57 and Prasad on 13 not out.

    In the last session Sri Lanka started off well with Mathews and Prasad hitting good strokes down the ground and also Mathews giving more strike to Prasad. The partnership between these two players ended as Prasad was LBW for 35 runs when the score was 275. The next over Mathews got out for well made 77 runs. After that Herath and Thindru Kashual played sensibly and put a useful ninth wicket partnership of 28 runs. Thindru Kashual was out for 18. With rain coming down at the end of day 2 Sri Lanka are 304 for 9 with a healthy lead of 166.

    The star for Pakistan was Yasir Shah picking 5 wickets.
