The day of most fancied India-Pakistan match of this World T20 2016 has finally come. Confident Pakistan will take on shattered India, who lost their opening match to New Zealand at Nagpur. Now, a victory for Pakistan against India will bring them close to semifinals and leave India in the bay of uncertainties. But, India has never lost to Pakistan in the history of ICC’s two biggest cricket events World Cup and World T20 even in their worst form. Pakistan even in 1992 World Cup lost to India but clinched the trophy under the leadership of maverick allrounder Imran Khan beating England in the final.
But, this time, coach Waqar Younis sounds positive on the eve of the match. He said, “They (India) must be worried that they can crash out of the tournament.” Pakistan are currently in the second position of the point table while India at the fourth position. Adding more woe to India the statistics of the Eden Gardens is also in favour of Pakistan as they have defeated India all four limited over matches at the historic ground.
Three ways for Pakistan to break the to break the 24 years old jinx
Take the game as normal as other matches
It was observed that Pakistan has become very excited before the match against India and their players talk so much about the match that made them nervous on the field. Earlier Pakistan players use to come in the press conference on the eve of the match. So, this time taking the cue of the previous instances, Waqar Younis himself came to address the media. He didn’t talk much about the rivalries. He concentrated on the match, talked about the facts and chances. He also felt that this time history of 10-0 could be changed as Pakistan have never lost to India at the Eden Gardens and this time around they are in good form.
Waqar also requested everyone that the rivalry should be only on the field, not outside of the ground that means he made it clear that he won’t allow his players to think much about the previous results of India-Pakistan match. This approach to the game may help Pakistan to break the jinx.
Soak up the pressure situations
Historically Pakistan are a very bad oat handling pressure situations against India. Even the best Pakistani team couldn’t beat an out of form Indian team. So, would you not say that it is a psychological battle more than a game of bat and ball? Otherwise, what could be the other reason for losing consecutive World Cup and World T20 matches to India. They drop a catch, throw their wicket away in a bid to play an unnecessary shot and bowlers lose their control over the ball if Indian batsmen unleash an onslaught over their bowlers.
So, this time, with better confidence Pakistan should play the game smartly not aggressively against an under pressure India that will help them to win the physiological battle and situations in greater aspect of the match.
Have to produce a performance as a unit?
And finally Pakistan have to keep their fielding tight and bowlers have to find line and length against mighty Indian batsmen, especially against Rohit Sharma, who has a fame love story with the Eden Gardens, and batting sensation Virat Kohli. Along with this Pakistan top order- Ahmed Shahzad, Mohammad Hafeez, Umar Akmal have to give Pakistan a rollicking start that will help middle order batsmen Shoaib Malik and Shahid Afridi to open their hands and unleash big shots against the India’s bowlers, who are capable of picking wickets at any time of the match.
The batting department also have to find a way to pierce the gap when Indian bowlers will not give any room to them for big shots.
However, psychological battle and situations are the two important things to win an India-Pakistan match. If Pakistan really wants to change the history, then they have to win both to be the champion of this match. And if Pakistan win this match then their confidence will get a huge boost that may even help them to be the champion of this World T20.
