India defeated West Indies by 237 runs in the 3rd test match at St Lucia to seal the series 2-0 with 1 test match to go. After declaring on 217 for 7, the Indian fast bowlers impressed with their consistent line and lengths. Mohammad Shami, Ishant Sharma, Kumar, Jadeja and Ashwin were brilliant to bowl out West Indies for 108 runs.

  1. Quick scoring by the Indian batsmen

Starting on the overnight score of 157 for 3, Rohit Sharma could not add to his score. Rahane , Jadeja , Saha scored quick runs for the Indian team. In search of quick runs Ashwin was dismissed. Rahane remained not out on 78. The Indian team scored 60 runs in quick time. India declared at the score of 217 for 7.

  1. Indian bowlers ripping West Indies top order

Giving a target of 346 runs to win, the Indian team got off to a perfect start as Mohammad Shami picked the wicket of Johoson early. Soon after Bhuvneshwar Kumar bowled an excellent delivery to dismiss Kraigg Braithwaite to leave West Indies in big trouble 4 for 2. Marlon Samuels and Darren Bravo struggled against top quality bowling of the Indian team. Ishant Sharma came and dismissed Marlon Samuels to leave West Indies at 35 for 3. Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Mohammad Shami and Ishant Sharma bowled consistent line and lengths making the life tough for West Indies top order batsmen.

  1. Darren Bravo the lone warrior

West Indies struggled right from the start losing 2 early wickets at the score of 4. Darren Bravo came to the crease and looked out of sorts for a while at the start. After lunch when wickets were falling at the other he played wonderful strokes of the spinners. He completed his half century 73 balls. None of West Indies batsmen showed the ability to stay on the wicket. Darren Bravo was dismissed for 59.

  1. Indian fast bowlers coming to the party

The Indian fast bowlers were brilliant on the 5th day. Kumar, Mohammad Shami and Ishant Sharma created pressure on West Indies batting. Mohammad Shami was the pick of the bowlers taking 3 wickets giving away just 15 runs. Shami picked the wickets of Johoson in the first session. In the next session he picked the wicket of Dowrich and Darren Bravo. Bhuvneshwar Kumar though did pick only 1 wicket did not give many runs. Ishant Sharma also contributed with 2 important wickets of Chase and Marlon Samuels to break the backbone of West Indies line up.

  1. Brilliant captaincy by Virat Kohli

Virat Kohli did an excellent job as a captain on the 5th day. He set aggressive fields for the fast bowlers and brought changes in the bowling according to the batsmen. Kohli allowed his batsmen to play 9 overs. After declaring, Kohli made sure that the Indian fast bowlers and spinner created pressure on West Indies batsmen which looked unsettled. He became the first Indian captain to win 2 test matches in West Indies.
