5 cricketers who are playing better than Kohli in International cricket

Batsman Virat Kohli has been in tremendous form. His prolific batting in international and franchise cricket made him the leading star of world cricket. His batting in limited over cricket is defining an era. Cricketers and Experts around the globe termed him as the best cricketers of his time.

His stroke play and constant one and twos between the wickets and aggression put him in a different club. He already scored 25 ODI hundred and 11 in Tests cricket. His batting average in T20 cricket is the highest among the batsmen in the world , and in ODI and Test, he has 51.51 and 44.02 batting average in 171 and 41 matches respectively. His ability to chase a mountainous total and scores runs in an equal measure made him different from other cricketers.

His approach is very clear to his  own game that helps him to bat with a clear mindset. But, he is not the best cricketers of his generations. Here are five cricketers who are performing batter than Virat Kohli in international cricket.

David Warner 27 The pocket size dynamo is a hard hitter of the ball across the formats of the game. The Australian opener  made his one-day international debut in 2009 and Test debut in 2011. The opener is known for giving Australia a good start along with bulky Aaron Finch.  Warner is nowhere close to Virat Kohli in ODI format. As an opener, it is difficult for every batsman to score runs  like a No. 3 batsman. The job of the opener is to face the new ball at a fresh  surface and provide a good momentum to the team.

So,  on a couple of occasions, he got out early due to hara-kiri.  Warner’s hard-hitting ability as an opener often allow his captain Steve Smith to score a plethora of runs for the team as the surface become easy and the new  ball lost the polish. But, in Test cricket, Warner is a different batsman like former Indian batsman Virender Sehwag, who ODI career was nowhere close to his greatness in Test cricket as  in the former format his job was giving India a good start. He in Test format did an outstanding job so far. In 51 matches he scored  4506 at an average of  50.06  with 16 hundred. Warner is known for his brute hitting against the seamer and spinners.

The Southpaw is a great player of spinners. In the IPL 2016, he  was one man army  for Sunrisers Hyderabad as he alone won the play-off against Gujarat Lions  and defeated Virat Kohli’s Royal Challengers Bangalore. At Indian conditions, he broke all the records as he ended with 848 runs just after Virat Kohli’s 973 runs . If Virat failed in this IPL Warner would have taken all the publicities. But , ultimately, Warner has the last laugh as he played 37 balls 69 runs innings that helped his team to post a 207 runs total in the final and won the match.

Joe Root 25 There is no doubt that he is going to be the greatest English cricketer. The flamboyant root made his debut in 2013 as a middle order batsman in Test cricket.  His skill and supreme technique in county cricket helped him to book a berth in Test team as a 21-year-old boy. There are only a few players who made their debut in Test cricket and then donned the rainbow jersey of the country. Root is one of them. His success in Test cricket at this young age is sensational. In 41 matches he scored 3486 at an average of 54.46 with nine hundred and a double hundred. He is a prolific batsman, his long stay at crease means a plethora of runs will be scored. He is equally good in limited over formats. In 2013 he made his ODI debut. So far he played 68 ODIs  and scored 2527 runs at an average  of 44.34 with a strike rate of 84.46. He also adopted the T20 format outstandingly. Unlike the Test and ODI formats here his strike rate is 138.78.  He has time to improve and more aggressive. In the 2016 World T20 in India, he played some of the lusty knocks  for England that helped England to qualify for the final for the second time. So far he played only 20 T20 matches and scored 594 runs at ana average of 39.69.

Kane Williamson 26 The New Zealand cricketer is the most beautiful batsman among the current generations of cricketers. His calm demeanor and prolific run scoring abilities and technique helped him to score runs in any conditions. After Brendon McCullum bade international cricket adieu he took over the rein from the former in 2016. He was the highest run-scorer in 2014-2015 seasons in Test and second in ODI.

His prolific run scoring  ability is a treat to spectators. In Test, he played 48 matches and scored 4037 runs at an average of   49.23  with 13 hundred and 19 half centuries. He has outstanding skills to cope up with any conditions in the world. In ODI with more aggression he scored 3666 runs at an average of 47 with 7 hundred and 25 half centuries in 93 matches. In T20 he sticks with his basic and batted with a strike rate of  124.29.

He is just 60 days away from his 26th birthday so he has many years left to rise in international cricket with outstanding innings. His Test batting is the best among current blokes as it is a delight for spectators. His copy book cricket with an elegant touch of wrist and work of feet made him a beautiful Test cricketer. Steve Smith 27 The Australian captain has been criticised for his weird batting stance and defense. But he is a run machine.  For him, elegance is not a matter all he believes in scoring runs and contributing to his team. He started his career as a legspinner who can bat, and now he is the leading Australian batsman. The 27  years olds Test batsman is ushered with a whopping batting average of 60.18 in 41 matches. He so far scored 3852 with 14 hundred and  16 half centuries. But his ODI batting is not as good as Test. He often succumbed to reverse swing and  in-swinger as he shuffles a lot. But the captain is a good batsman as he scores runs whenever required . He so far played 74 ODIs and scored  2096 runs with 5 hundred and 9 half centuries. His ODI and T20 yet not rise like his Test batsmanship.  But his smartness and intent to learn quickly will help him to shine in limited over cricket too. Hashim Amla 33 The late bloomer of South African cricket is a prolific right-handed opener. Whatever records Virat Kohli is nothing up he is breaking one after another. He is great in both ODI and Test cricket. He was the highest run-scorer in ODI format for the 2014-2015 season. He broke Virat Kohli’s fastest 5000 runs and 6000 runs records.  In both Test and ODI, he averages 51.45 and  51.72. He played fewer matches than Virat Kohli in  ODI.

His limited over career started late as South African top order and middle order was congested with a lot of talented players for a long time. The right-handed batsman appeared in international in 2004. He is a regular batsman in Test format but ODI and T20  career started in 2008 and 2009 respectively.

He could have been the best the greatest batsman of the limited over cricket. If he born in the 1990s Virat Kohli could have faced a tough competition from Amla.  But Amla’s retirement is just a matter or 5 to 6 years. So Virat will have a good opportunity to batter all of them to be the greatest cricketer of his generation. However, the above cricketers are younger than him except Steve Smith and David Warner so they can challenge him.  And they have already risen in Test cricket, the parameter of greatness, but Virat yet to shine there.
