5 key contributors for India in the 3rd Test match against West Indies

The Indian Cricket team defeated West Indies by 237 runs in the 3rd test match at ST Lucia. By the virtue of this win, India took a 2-0 lead in the series with 1 match to spare. Despite the 3rd day washed out due to rain, the Indian team played positive cricket winning the test match and also series. Here we look at the 5 key contributors for India in the 3rd test match against West Indies.

  1. R Ashwin

R Ashwin played a key role for India in the 3rd test match. He came to the crease at 126 for 5. Ashwin showed class with solid technique and recovered from early losses of the wicket. In the first test match also he scored a century which helped India to register a win. At the end of the first day, he remained not out on 75. On the second day, Ashwin completed his second century of the series. He was dismissed for 118 runs. Because of his contributions, India was able to post a competitive total of 353. Along with this he picked 3 wickets in the match and was named the man of the match for his efforts.

2. Bhuvneshwar Kumar

Bhuvneshwar Kumar came in place of Umesh Yadav for this test match. On the second day, Kumar could not provide any breakthrough. Coming into the fourth day, Bhuvneshwar Kumar displayed excellent swing bowling which the West Indies bowlers did not have any answers. In the first innings, he finished with figures of 5 for 33. In the second innings also he troubled the West Indies batsmen with swing. He picked the wicket of Braithwaite. His contribution helped India to win the test match despite the third day being washed out due to rain.

3. Wriddhiman Saha

Indian wicketkeeper Wriddhiman Saha also made a key contribution in the 3rd test match. Saha joined Ashwin at the score of 126. Saha played carefully and made sure that India does not lose any wickets on the first day after being in early trouble. He remained not out on 46. On the second day, he continued to play carefully and also hit the bad balls away for boundaries. Saha scored a century and put up important 213 runs for the sixth wicket. He was dismissed for 104. Saha was very impressive behind the wickets.

4. Rahane

Rahane also played an important role in helping India win the 3rd test match. On the first day, India lost two early wickets, Rahane made sure that India does not lose wickets. Rahul, Rohit Sharma also went to leave India at 87 for 4. He played a patient knock of 35 and was dismissed off a full toss. In the second India were 58 for 2. Rahane steadied the innings and helped India to take a 285 runs lead at the end of day 4. He remained not out on 78 giving West Indies a target of 346.

5. Mohammad Shami

Mohammad Shami bowled impressively in the 3rd test match. In the first innings despite not picking wickets, did not give many runs. While defending 346 in the second innings, Mohammad Shami provided an initial breakthrough. He picked the wicket of Johntson in the first session and also troubled West Indies batsmen with bouncers. In the second session, he picked the wicket of Dowrich and well settled Darren Bravo to finish the job for the Indian team. He finished with figures of 3 for 15 in 11 overs. Shami kept the pressure on West Indies batsmen by bowling tight line and lengths which made life tough for them to score runs easily.
