5 players who were not given a single game in the 9th edition of the IPL

The Indian Premier League has some outstanding talent on the show year after year in the shortest format of the game.

But with just 14 group games, every team wants their best XI to play every game and this has seen a number of players from many franchises not get even a single game the whole tournament.

With the knock-out stages already upon us, there is hardly any chance that a team will hand a player a debut in the qualifiers. This leaves a number of players without even a single appearance in the 2016 edition of the competition.

With the missing stars high in number, let’s take a look at the top-5 deserving players who failed to make it to their respective starting XI for the whole season.

Trent Boult (Sunrisers Hyderabad):

After breaking into the national scene with some impressive bowling with the New Zealand national team, Trent Boult is now regarded as one of the toughest players to face with a red ball.

However, he has not been able to cement himself as a stern limited over bowler and paid the price for it in the current IPL season. The likes of Mustafizur Rahman who has been a revelation since the turn of the year stole his place in the starting line-up and does not look like giving it up.

As a foreign player, Boult, if selected disrupts the balance in the squad for SRH and with just 3 games between them and the title, Boult may go the entire season without an outing.

Corey Anderson (Mumbai Indians):

Arguably the best all-rounder for Mumbai Indian’s in the last season, Corey Anderson, who was also impressive in the T20 World Cup failed to impress the Ricky Ponting at Mumbai.

He is a hard hitter who can win matches on his own and is also a burly fast bowler who can keep things tight. However, With Mitchell McCleneghan doing a great job for the Blues, Anderson has been left without a place in the starting line-up.

However, Mumbai might regret this decision having failed to qualify for the play-off this season.

Andrew Tye (Gujarat Lions):

The Gujarat Lions, who are currently in their debut season of the Indian Premier League have done exceptionally well and find-themselves at the top of the points table at the end of the group stage.

They have taken some great decisions regarding their team composition but one Andrew Tye will not be easily to convince. The fast-bowler from Perth showed his exploits with the bat and the ball in Big Bash league in Australia and was considered a great buy for the Lions.

But the combinations within the team that helped them reach the qualifiers could not be disturbed leaving the fast bowler without an appearance so far in this season’s competition.

Shaun Tait (Kolkata Knight Riders):

Though not known to be a disciplined bowler, Shaun Tait, one of the quickest in the business, is a dangerous weapon to have in your armory.

The Kolkata Knight Riders made sure that they held on to him for another season but did not seem too keen to give him a go in the tournament.

Having come to the club on a big money move, Shaun Tait has not been able to break into the starting XI at KKR, especially with the likes of Russel and Narine doing a great job with the ball so far in the tournament. With only the knock-outs left, Tait hardly has a chance to feature in this competition.

Jerome Taylor (Mumbai Indians):

The 31-year old West Indies fast bowler has not been on the international scene for some-time now but came into the IPL as a replacement for the injured Lasith Malinga.

But he has been a big weapon for the domestic franchises in the Caribbean and was retained by the Mumbai Indians for the 9th edition of the Indian Premier League.

However, with the coach and the captain not able to find the right combination throughout the group stage, Taylor was left to dray and had no chance of an outing this season. And now with MI eliminated, Rohit Sharma and Ricky Ponting might be cursing themselves to have got the team combination wrong.
