Mumbai Indians have lost 3 out of 3 matches in this year’s IPL edition so far. They have lost to Kolkata Knight Riders in the opening match followed by Kings XI Punjab and Rajasthan Royals. Their performance has been below par in all areas like batting, bowling and fielding too. They will face Chennai in today’s match.
Here we look at 5 things that Mumbai Indians should do to end losing streak:
1. Rohit Sharma to open the batting
Rohit Sharma has to take the charge for Mumbai with the bat. In the last match against Rajasthan Royals he came at number 4 but failed to score a run. He had scored 98 in the first match against Kolkata Knight Riders opening the batting. He scored Zero against Punjab. There is no reason for a batsman who opens for the country to drop down. He must open the batting with left hander batsmen Parthiv Patel that will pose a bowling and fielding challenges to the opponent
2. Impact players to play key role as middle order batsmen
Impact batsmen like Tare, Corey Anderson, Pollard, Ambati Rayadu and Simmons all look strong on paper but have not performed that well so far. At least one out of these at least one must make an effort to stay at the wicket and the others score runs from the other end. This role can be rotated based on the day’s mental frame luck and performance.
3. Bowling to improve big time
The bowling of the Mumbai in this tournament has been poor as they have not bowled out any team so far. With likes of Malinga, Vinay Kumar and Harbhajan Singh , who can be supported by Pawan Suyual, Keiron Pollard, they have not only been able to pick up early wickets but also restrict the scoring of the opponents especially in death overs. The bowling has to step up if they have to stop the Chennai Super Kings’ formidable batting line up to put a big challenge or chasing the target.
4. Domestic Indian players need to step up
It is important that the domestic Indian players step up for the Mumbai Indians team. The likes of Vinay Kumar, Sheryas Gopal, J Suchith have to create pressure with their bowling or batting. Their bowling has been below par and that’s why Mumbai Indians have been struggling to win in this season.
5. Improvement in fielding
Mumbai Indians’ fielding in this IPL has also been poor as their ground fielding and catching have not been exemplary. They have dropped catches and also they gave away too many runs in ground fielding. Mumbai Indians need to get their act together in all areas if they have to get back to winning ways.
Over and above Rohit Sharma needs to show a bit of aggression in his captaincy too and lead form front.
