Of late many of the fans of this most popular sporting extravaganza, known as IPL, were feeling that the thrill and the element of sensation have gone missing during the recent times. The prime charms of the IPL are, its unpredictable results, thrilling batting, excitement filled and stunning bowling, world- wide fan following, the extent of global coverage and the brand value. Above all this unique platform has been able to successfully provide a good opportunity not only to the emerging young players to show case their talent but to the opportunity to make a comeback to many of the former international cricketers as well.

Of course there have been few negatives like spot fixing, controversies relating to the owners of franchises and challenge to prevent this event becoming a stereo type tournament but overall, the IPL has undoubtedly emerged as the most followed event.

To keep its attraction, thrill and charm alive, Chris Gayle of RCB, in a match against Kings XI Punjab, played at famous Chinnaswamy stadium of Chennai yesterday has played a 57-ball 117runs inning, which facilitated Royal Challengers to put a target of 226 before Kings XI. S Aravind and Mitchell Starc then thrashed out Kings XI Punjab’s pursuit within meager 14 overs. Barring a sincere effort from Axar Patel, there was hardly any notable resistance from the visitors as they ended up 138 runs short. For the records sadly, the defeat all but ended Kings XI’s chances of making the playoffs.

However, apart from delivering a much needed victory to his team; Mighty Chris Gayle has achieved the following milestones after his yesterday’s scintillating and electrifying performance:

1) He has become the very first oversees player to have scored 3000 runs in the IPL. It is equally interesting to note that half of these runs are scored at the same venue.

2) He has become the batsman with most number (14) of centuries in the IPL to his credit.

3) This particular innings also happens to be the fastest century made by anyone in the IPL that is 46 balls 100 runs.

Well in case the batsmen and the bowlers of RCB continue to give such a robust performance, who knows that the dream of captain Virat Kohli, to get hold of the IPL trophy for the very first time might prove true. Meanwhile we expect to see many more of such fiery and class batting, not only from Gayle but from the willow of dashing Kohli as well.
