AB de Villiers close to another record. But he would not want that record

  • AB de Villiers made it into the records book recently after striking the fastest hundred and fifty in One Day Internationals. But now AB de Villiers is close to another record, that not only him but no batsmen in the world would want to be associated to.

Let’s take a look at this unfortunate record that AB de Villiers is close to –

Stat updated till 22 January, 2015

You must have got some idea after looking at the above stat and if you have not then we are talking about players with most number of ducks (0) in the ICC World Cup. AB de Villiers is the closest to this list to make it to the top. Currently Nathan Astle from New Zealand and Ijaz Ahmed of Pakistan are on top with 5 ducks and de Villiers is just one short behind the two.

AB de Villiers is in great form right now and it is very unlikely that he would get out on zero in a tournament of great importance but it takes one good ball to even get a batsman in great form out for a zero.

Only one Indian batsman, K Srikkanth, is featured on the list 4 ducks to his name. Former Pakistan captain Inzamam-ul-Haq has also been dismissed on zero for 4 times.

However these players have all retired from cricket, which increases the chances of AB de Villiers to get to an unfortunate record more easily. But will he end with the record of having most number of ducks in a ICC Cricket World Cup? We’ll know it at the end of this world cup.

Until then share your views if de Villiers will really get out on a duck in this world cup or not?
