The Mumbai Indians bowlers were simply annihilated by the brutal hitting of a beast called AB De Villiers. De Villiers was ferocious and no bowler was spared. The Wankhede stadium in Mumbai was the witness to an epic inning indeed. The South African ODI captain has been in the form of his life and in the last 12 months, the run machine has just piled up misery for the bowlers. With De Villiers in the side, a massive total is always on the cards.

AB de Villiers though, admitted that it was the number 3 slot which gave him a lot of confidence and he is simply relishing it. By batting at number 3, AB gets to face a lot of deliveries and towards the later stages of an innings; he is well set to wreck havoc.

“I have always wanted to play at the top of the order. From the day I started playing T20 cricket I always wanted to bat in the top three and I am very thankful for the fact that Royal Challengers Bangalore has given me the chance to bat at three now,” De Villiers said after his whirlwind knock.

The productive batsman also explained the technicalities of his batting, and spoke about finding gaps in the outfield. De Villiers said, “I have played the game for a long time now and most batsmen will tell you that it comes with experience,” he said about his ability to hit the ball to all parts of the ground.

“Yes, maybe back in the day all the other sports other than cricket that I played helped me to put some of those skills in my cricket. But I have played the game for eleven years now in the international level. I know my game pretty well and that is the secret to success in most sports. I just try and earn my right to get on top of the bowlers and that is how I play every game.”

The entire cricketing fraternity was in awe of this talented South African after his mind boggling knock. David Warner tweeted for De Villiers, “The best batter in world cricket.” Brendon McCullum, who himself is a tormentor for bowlers said, “He is a freak of nature but he is so humble as well.”

When speaking after the game he just deflected the praise to everyone else. He is not only a fantastic cricketer but an absolute legend bloke as well.
