The 3rd day of the 1st Test match between Sri Lanka got into news , much for non-cricketing reasons than for the cricketing ones. Vernon Philander was fined 75 percent of the match fees on account of ball tampering and cricketing world started to raise questions over the sporting spirit of South Africa. It soon began to be related to the incident which occured around 9 months ago, when David Warner spoke about the possiblity of South Africa tampering the ball, but without any proof. This led him to suffer and face punishment but now everyone feels that Warner was right.
The 4th day started on the back of these incidents, but little did others know of what was to follow. AB Devilliers pulled of a brilliant catch at slips to dismiss Rangana Herath, with what will surely go down as one of the best one at slips. This catch ended Sri Lankan innings at just 292, handing South Africa a lead of 163 runs in the 1st innings.
DeVilliers was kept out of the captaincy after Graeme Smith retired from all formats of the game and the selection panel went with Amla as captain, perhaps to decrease the wrok load on Devilliers. Devilliers suffered an injury leading to this match , which saw him leaving wicke keeping job for the match. This fact just makes the catch even more special.
