South African pacer Dale Steyn is well aware of his compatriot, AB de Villiers’ batting prowess.
A couple o years ago AB de Villiers smashed his compatriot and deadly bowler Dale Steyn all over the park in the Indian Premier League’s seventh edition.
AB de Villiers literally toyed with the bowler at the M.Chinnaswamy stadium, when he came to bowl the 18th over of the innings, a point where Deccan Chargers had to defend 39 runs off 18 balls.
The superman hit the pacer for three sixes and two boundaries to collect 23 runs from the over – 6, 2, 4, 6, 4, 1.
On Monday, Steyn once again witnessed a master class from de Villiers as he single-handedly took RCB to the final. In his column for Times of India, Steyn wrote that the knock de Villiers played during the Qualifier 1 match in Bengaluru could rate in the batsman’s top-ten favourite knocks.
“When AB de Villiers is at the crease, you do not discount anything. Anything,” wrote Steyn. “I know he doesn’t keep a list of his favourite or best innings, never has, but there must be people who do. I wonder where they put that one. Top ten?”
Praising de Villiers, Steyn called the South Africa Test and One-Day International captain “mind-reading bloodhound”, who can predict what the bowler is going to bowl and take him down.
“AB is like a mind-reading bloodhound. He can smell the emotions of the opposition and he predicts what they are going to do and how they will behave. He probably sensed that the bowlers were on edge, desperate for another wicket to get into the tail, and he pounced – reversing the pressure as we always try to do. He was brilliant – again,” Steyn summed up.
