According to Micky Arthur, Its Too Late For Sohail Khan to Make a Comeback to the National Team

Pakistan has always been one of the strongest cricket team in the world and has produced talents like Imran Khan, Javed Miandad, Inzamam Ul-Haq, Wasim Akram, Waqar Younis, Shoaib Akhtar and the list can go on and on. The country has had great batting talents in the past but has been struggling to get same solidarity in their batting department since the retirement of Younis Khan and Misbah Ul-Haq.

However, the country has always enjoyed an abundance of talent in their fast bowling department. Pakistan has always had bowlers who can bowl at over 140 Km/ph at a consistent level. A current lot of Pakistani bowlers include the likes of Mohammed Amir, Rumman Raees, Junaid Khan, Usman Shenwari and worlds number one bowler right now Hasan Ali.

Any bowler who is vying to make it to the Pakistan national team has to outperform these bowlers which is a hard task to do. Another promising bowler that came into the Pakistani side was Sohail Khan. The right arm fast bowler last played for the Pakistani team when the World XI toured Pakistan for a three-match T20 series. Sohail played just one match but was unable to impress the selectors and was dropped from the team.

He last donned the Pakistani jersey in Tests or ODI’s format was in 2016 before being dropped from the team. He has been working hard to get back to the team, but national team coach Micky Arthur feels it is too late for the bowler to make a comeback to the national team as players ten years younger to him are performing well.

Arthur said:

“I and Sohail enjoy good relations and I admire the hard work Sohail has been doing. He has altered his mindset and has been bowling well, but I keep telling him that he is 34-years-old now while we have got many younger players who are playing really good cricket at 23 and 24 years of age. Unfortunately, that is the harsh truth. The systems might have failed him long ago, but if ten years ago he had done what he is doing right now, then who knows how big an international player he would have become.”
