Former Australian wicketkeeper and all time legend Adam Gilchrist has lauded Indian wicketkeeper batsman MS Dhoni for surpassing his runs tally. Recently, during the third ODI against the Windies in Antigua, Dhoni went past the 9410 ODI runs tally of the Australian great, and became the second highest run getter in ODI’s as a pure wicketkeeper batsman. Dhoni, is second only now to Kumar Sangakkara in the elite list, as the Sri Lankan great tops the charts with 13342 ODI career runs.
In an Instagram post made by Gilchrist, the Australian paid rich tributes to Dhoni and posted a picture of the two during an IPL game toss. Along with the picture, Gilchrist wrote that it was just a matter of time before the Indian veteran surpassed his tally among the leading run getters for wicket keepers. Below, is the post, where Gilchrist is paying his tributes to Dhoni’s milestone.

Post the historic knock, Dhoni was quite delighted and even went on to compare himself with red wine. “Our top-order has been doing the bulk of the scoring in the last one-one and a half years, so it felt good to get an opportunity and score runs,” said Dhoni.
“I think it was the nature of the wicket. There was variable bounce and at times the pace. It was important to have a partnership at that stage. In my mind, I had 250, and we got there, with Kedar batting with me at the end. It was something the bowlers could defend, but they had to bowl well.”
“It’s important to guide spinners. Kuldeep has played a lot of games in IPL but when it comes to international cricket, it’s important to know where to use your variety. Once he plays 5-10 games, he will realise it himself. The good thing is, compared to the last game, he bowled very well today,” Dhoni added, about guiding the spinners.
