Pakistani cricketer Adnan Akmal has been recently given a rare decision of getting out for obstructing the field. Not a very commonly occurring phenomenon, this happened during a match in Haier Twenty20 Cup. Lahore blues, the team Akmal plays for in the tournament, were up against Quetta Region for a qualifier at the Rawalpindi Stadium as the TV umpire declared him dismissed for obstructing the field.
Primarily it seemed like it was a defensive move by Akmal but after reviewing it, Sajid Afridi, the third umpire for the match declared him out. Adnan Akmal appeared in as much as 12 matches for the national side during the period of 2010 to 2014.
There seems to be a conincidence as the first time any batsman was given out in such a manner was also in Pakistan, the batsman at loss being Ahmed Hayat. He was playing for the Faisalabad Wolves at Gaddafi Stadium in the year 2005. Akmal is the 6th batsman to be getting out in this way in T20 matches, though none of the cases were in international matches. The other four batsmen than Adnan Akmal and Ahmed Hayat are – Chinthaka Perera, Adrian Barath, Yusuf Pathan and Devon Thomas. Such an incident has happened in T20 format for the first time after 2013.
