Rahul Dravid one of the great batsmen in Test cricket joined the debate over Ajiynake Rahane batting order in Test matches as he said Rahane should be sent at number five and not at number three. He was sent one down in the last two Tests in Sri Lanka recently.
He is good at number 4 or number 5 because of the ability to play with the tail enders the range of shots he possesses and for the opportunity he would get to face the second new ball. Rahane has the ability to play very good innings at number 5.
Rahul Dravid said that Rahane has been the most consistent middle order batsmen for India in overseas tours for the past year and a half. He scored centuries in New Zealand, a century at Lord’s where India won the match after been in trouble and in South Africa where he missed the century by 4 runs. He scored all those runs while batting at number five while in the Sri Lanka Test series he batted at number 5 at Galle and at number three in the next two Test matches.
While he scored a century in a winning cause at the P Sara Oval, Rahane failed to reach double figures in other three innings in which he batted number 3.
