Amit Mishra was fantastic – Zaheer Khan

The Delhi Daredevils finally got their IPL 2016 campaign off and running after a comprehensive victory over Kings XI Punjab. Zaheer Khan justified his decision to bowl first, as the Daredevils bowlers responded early and were all over the helpless Kings XI batsmen. The top order of the Punjabis collapsed like a pack of cards against the guile of the Delhi bowlers.

However, it was Amit Mishra who stole the show with his outstanding display of wrist spin. The leg-spinner grabbed four wickets in his spell while he conceded just 11 runs. Mishra was unplayable at times and him once again made it evident that why he was rated so highly in this particular format. In the post-match presentation, Daredevils skipper Zaheer Khan lauded Mishra for his excellent spell and match-winning effort.

“The win was required for us. Happy with the way we put the efforts on the field. It was a good toss to win and we put the pressure on Punjab. The energy out there was fantastic. That is how we are approaching this season. It is a young side so you want to see the energy out there. Mishra was fantastic, this is what good teams do in big tournaments like this,” said an ecstatic Zaheer.

Zaheer also added the need to maximize on the momentum and said, “We want to build momentum at the right time. Let everyone express themselves out there. We are playing RCB in a couple of days. This win will definitely help.”

Mishra was named the Man of the match for his efforts, and he was extremely pleased with his outstanding bowling performance. “I am just trying to take wickets, really happy today. It was a bit on the slower side, you have to give your best to turn it here. I wanted to bowl the fourth over but supported my captain’s decision. We work very hard. Have done hard work in batting, bowling and fielding also. It came good in today’s game,” said Mishra.
