Hashim Amla has been appointed as captain of the South African Test team . He has taken over Graeme Smith , after the latter decided to retire from all forms of International cricket. A b Devilliers has been appointed as the deputy to Hashim Amla.

Cricket South Africa (CSA) Chief Executive Haroon Lorgat said Amla was an experienced player and perfect for the job.AB De Villiers will be the vice captain to Amla. The men will reverse roles in the One Day format.

Two weeks before, Devilliers was the perfect guy for this job but after Amla said that he would love to captain the Test team, the selectors had an option to ponder over. Also , the fact that Devilliers is a wicket keeper batsman and captaincy would have overloaded him, might just have worked in favour of Amla

After being appointed as captain, Amla said that its an honour and previlege for me to captain the test team. I pay tribute to Graeme for his leadership.

His first duty starts on South Africa’s next tour to Sri Lanka next month, where they will play 2 Test matches. The squad for the series has also been announced. Couple of new faces got their chance , with the 2 being  batsman Stiaan van Zyl and offspinner Dane Piedt.
