Another record awaits team India at Eden Gardens

The celebrations and happiness of the 500th Test match are not over yet and team India is set to achieve another milestone, a handy one this time. The second Test match between India and New Zealand that will be played at Eden gardens will be the 250th Test match that team India will play on home soil. It will also be the 501th Test match in which team India will participate.

It means that till now, team India has played 249 Test matches on home soil and rest of 251 Test matches have been played outside home soil. The ratio of matches played by India in and outside home soil is almost same i.e. 50% but the percentage of home Test matches will shoot up in next 6 month as team India is scheduled to play 12 more Test matches on home soil.

The Eden garden Test is going to be a historic one as playing 250th Test on home soil is a moment of joy and enjoyment. Cricket association of Bengalis also set to make this occasion a historic one “We just got a confirmation that this will be the 250th Test match on Indian soil which makes it historic and special,” CAB joint-secretary Avishek Dalmiya said.

Surely they will make special preparations to make this Test match a historic one.

It was in the year 1933 when for the first time team India played first home Test match. C.K. Nayudu, the first captain of India led the team in this game too which was played at Gymkhana ground, Bombay. Team India lost the first Test match by a margin of 9 wickets, the second test was a draw and England won the thirdTest match to clinch the series by a margin of 2-0.

It was in the year 1952 when team India registered its first Test win on home soil. England team travelled to India for five Test matches series, the first three test matches ended in a draw with England team winning the penultimate test match by 8 wickets. The pressure was again on Indian not to lose the series, the Indian boys bounced back in style winning the final Test match by a margin of an innings and 8 runs. History was created in Chennai at Madras cricket club ground, Chepauk as it was first test match win for India on home soil. Vijay Hazare was the captain who led the team to first ever victory on home soil.

The same year team India achieved another milestone by winning first Test series on home soil. Pakistan toured India to play 5 Test matches, after losing the first Test match, Pakistan came strongly winning the second one by a margin of innings and 43 runs.  Team Indian won the third Test match gaining the lead in the series. Fourth and fifth Test match ended in a draw and team India registered their first series win on home soil crushing the arch rivals Pakistan. Lala Amarnath was the captain of team India who led the team to a famous win.

An overseas series win came 19 years later when Ajit Wadekar led team India to famous series win over mighty West Indies at their home.

These moments from history are not only meant for joy, but also it inspires us and those who dream to play for the country and serve the nation.
