The former Indian selector and the star of the Indian team in the final of World Cup 1983, Madan Lal, has lauded M.S. Dhoni’s decision to quit the captaincy and termed it as a brave decision from Dhoni, “I appreciate the decision. Dhoni has done very well as a captain as he has won most of the tournament like ODI World Cup, T20 World Cup, Asia Cup. He has also reached number one in the Test cricket. His record as captain is wonderful,” he told ANI.
M.S. Dhoni, on January 4 (Wednesday) decided to step down as the skipper of the Indian team in limited overs format. Though he will be available for the selection in both the formats of the game. He will be playing as a specialist batsman in the team and we might also see him getting a promotion in the batting order to solve the Indian batting woes, which were somehow overshadowed by Virat Kohli’s form in the last ODI series against New Zealand.
Currently, M.S. Dhoni has a batting average of 50.89 and possess second highest batting average for India, preceded by Virat Kohli who has an average of 52.93. However, Dhoni’s wicket-keeping skills and fitness level will play a great role in him being surviving in international cricket but in the end, it will be the number of runs that will matter the most.
The Indian squad for the upcoming limited overs series against will be selected tomorrow (January 6). The first ODI of the series will be played on January 15 at Pune.
