Ashish Nehra Feels Its Responsibility Of The Team To Perform Better

Not just Ashish Nehra, but whole world had once written off any hopes of a comeback for him.

However, being picked up by now defunct franchise Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in IPL auction 2014 just changed Nehra’s life. After the eighth edition of IPL  in 2015, where the Delhiite ended up as the highest wicket-taker among Indian fast bowlers, he was soon called in the Indian team for the three matches T20I series against Australia in 2016.

He retained his place for the T20 World Cup 2016, played T20I series against England at the start of this year and is now in contention to play Champions Trophy as well.

This time again, Nehra will be playing for the defending champions Sunrisers Hyderabad, which he said that is an additional pressure being defending champions,

“We are the defending champions. More than pressure, it is the responsibility that we would like to do it again. Our first goal is to reach last four,” Nehra said.

Last year, the pace bowling line-up of Hyderabad played a major role in their success as likes of Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Mustafizur Rahman around and Nehra himself shone for the team but this time, there might be a case when the team will miss out on services of Rahman, as there are still clouds over his participation in IPL. Nehra though knew importance of Rahman but added that the team has bowlers who can step to the ranks in absence of the Bangladesh pacer,

“Even when Mustafizur was there, other bowlers also had the responsibility. We have back up bowlers in Barinder Iran, Mohammad Siraj and Afghanistan legspinner [Rashid Khan] will be our x-factor. If he [Mustafizur] comes, good, but we can’t look at one player who is missing. When the main player is missing or is not in form, other people [need to] take over.”

Further, the most experienced player in international cricket for India heaped praises on Bhuvneshwar Kumar, who has generally ben tagged as a new ball bowler, due to his ability to swing the ball right from the start,

“Bhuvi has come a long way. Many people feel that Bhuvi is a new-ball bowler, but he’s showed everybody what he can do. He is a great asset not only to the Sunrisers but also to any team. Whenever he has played IPL, he has done well. It is a good thing that more and more bowlers can bowl up front and in the death,” Nehra added.

Bhuvesnwar was the highest wicket-taker for Sunrisers Hyderabad last year and this year as well he will have the responsibility to replicate the performance of his last year. Though, the team will surely miss Mustafizur Rahman, in case he does not take part in the league.
