The five-time Asia Cup champions Sri Lanka will defend their title in the 13th Asia Cup at Bangladesh which is also 1st Asia Cup T20I. Sri Lanka had won the last Asia Cup in 2014 which was held in Bangladesh after beating Pakistan in the final.
If the recent performances are taken into consideration, the Sri Lankan team is not in a very good form, especially in T20Is. After winning the 2014 World T20, Sri Lanka has only won 3 T20I matches out of 10. Lack of consistency of the players is the biggest barrier to success for the Sri Lankan team in the shorter format of cricket.
Nevertheless, in the 2016 Asia Cup T20, the Sri Lankan squad is looking much better as there is a healthy mixture of experience and new talented players. Sri Lankan team is desperate to perform well in the 2016 Asia Cup T20 and clinch their 6th Asia Cup trophy as well as inaugural Asia Cup T20 trophy. The squad is looking well balanced in all spot.
Sri Lanka will begin their Asia Cup campaign against the qualifying team UAE on 25th February, where the Sri Lankan team is looking favourite. After that, Sri Lanka will face the host Bangladesh (28th February), India (1st march) and Pakistan (4th March).
The Asia Cup T20 is a great platform for the Sri Lankan team to build up as a good team before the 6th ICC World T20, which will begin just after the conclusion of 2016 Asia Cup T20. The 6th ICC World T20 will be held India from 8th March to 3rd April.
