AUS vs SA 2016: Shoulder Pain Scares Dale Steyn Again
Nov 4, 2016 at 1:40 PM
To counter misery caused by Australian bowlers and openers on Thursday, Dale Steyn along with his peers launched an all-round attack on Australian batsmen to which David Warner and Shaun Marsh reacted pretty well, adding more than 50 runs in 15 overs, before Steyn got the wicket of Warner, who fell just three runs short of what could have been his 17th Test century. Just the very next over, when Steyn hoped to produce the same magic again, the old shoulder pain relapsed, causing him discomfort before he finally walked off the field with a hand on his aching shoulder.
The pain, which kept him on the sidelines during the Tests series against England, rebounded with a force which did not allow him to go ahead and saw Keshav Maharaj coming in to complete the over, who dismissed Steven Smith just before lunch.
The extent of the injury is yet to be known but Steyn was seen sitting with a strap around his neck supporting his non-tattooed bowling shoulder before he was taken to the hospital for further scans and treatment. This can prove to be a career-defining moment for him.
However, everyone is waiting for the results of the scans, still, this can limit Steyn’s stay on this tour at least.
A Dale Steyn sans South Africa made a great turnaround settling Australia on a score of 244, just two runs ahead of what the visitors made. Vernon Philander topped the charts with four wickets, Maharaj snared three whereas youngster Kagiso Rabada dismissed Usman Khawaja and Adam Voges.
