Australia began their tri-series campaign in Zimbabwe on a perfect note as the Aussies hammered the hosts by 198 runs in the first match at Harare. Zimbabwe just managed 152/10 while chasing the target of 351 set by the Aussies.

Zimbabwe lost their opener Tino Mawoyo in the second over of the innings before Sikander Raza and Hamilton Masakadza stiched on a partnership of 63 before losing their wickets to Nathan Lyon accounted for Raza and Mitchell Johnson got rid of Brendon Taylor soon after. Skipper Elton Chigumbura too didn’t last long as he departed trying to send a James Faulkner delivery out of the park. The wickets kept on tumblingon one end as Masakadza held fort at the other end and reached his 24th fifty.  Steve Smith and Nathan Lyon were the pick of the Aussie bowlers as they finished with 3 and 2 wickets respectively.

Earlier in the day, Glenn Maxwell and Man of the match Mitchell Marsh demolished the Zimbabwe bowlers as the duo put on a partnership of 109 in less than 10 overs. The pair cashed in on the start given by Aaron Finch and Brad Haddin. Marsh reached his maiden fifty and got out for 89 off 83 balls and Maxwell on the other hand, scored 93 off just 46 balls and missed his maiden hundred by seven runs. The Aussie batsmen scored 147 runs in the last ten overs to end their innings on 350 in 50 overs.

Glenn Maxwell was declared the Man of the Match. Australia face South Africa in the second match of the triangular series on 27 August.
