Australia beat England by 64 runs in the second One day International at Lords, London just few moments ago. It was another excellent performance by Australia who dominated England in all departments.
Chasing a huge target of 310 the England openers Jason Roy and Alex Hales gave the team a solid start scoring 37 runs for the first wicket before Hales was dismissed by an excellent catch by Steve Smith. Jason Roy and James Taylor put 31 runs for the second wicket as Jason Roy was dismissed for 31. James Taylor and Eoin Morgan put on 51 for the third wicket before James Taylor was caught for 43. Ben Stokes and Eoin Morgan added 20 more runs for the fourth wicket as Ben Stokes was dismissed obstructing the field for 10.
In the next over, Buttler was given not out as Australia asked for review and the umpire reversed the decision as out. Moeen Ali and Eoin Morgan tried to steady the innings but Ali was dismissed to Maxwell. Eoin Morgan completed a well deserved 50. Woakes and Eoin Morgan again tried to steady the innings but lost the wicket of Woakes to put England in trouble at 183 for 7.
Rashid came to crease and tried to hit big strokes but was caught to leave England in big trouble at 188 for 8. Plunkett and Eoin Morgan attacked the Australian bowlers putting 55 off 24 balls before Starc bowled Plunkett. Eoin Morgan was the last batsmen out for a well made 85 as England were bowled out for 245. Australia won the second ODI by 64 runs. Cummins was the pick of the bowlers picking 4 wickets, while Maxwell picked 2 wickets, Starc, Marsh and Coulter Nile picked 1 wicket each.
England won the toss and elected to field in 49 over match delayed due to rain. David Warner and Joe Burns started the innings as David Warner was retired hurt due to injury. Steve Smith came to bat at number 3. Both Joe Burns and Steve Smith hit some good strokes to the boundaries. Joe Burns was the first batsmen to be dismissed by Steve Finn for 22.
At the end of 10 overs, Australia were 46 for 1. Bailey completed his 50 off 63 balls. Australia 100 came in 19.5 over’s.Bailey and Steve Smith put the bad balls away and put on 99 runs for the third wicket before Bailey was dismissed by Ali for 54. At the end of 30 over’s Australia were 148 for 2.
Steve Smith also completed his 50 off 68 balls. Steve Smith was dismissed by Rashid for 70 put Australia in comfortable position at 171 for 3. Maxwell and Watson attacked the England bowlers and put on 47 for the fourth wicket as Maxwell was dismissed by Finn. Watson and Marsh put 63 quick runs put Australia in commanding position. Watson was dismissed for 39 while Wade got out in the last over.Marsh played an excellent innings of 64 off 30 balls. At the end of 50 over’s Australia scored 309 for 7 in 50 over’s. Steve Finn picked 2 wicket, Ben Stokes picked 3 wickets while Rashid and Ali picked 1 wicket each.
With this Australia take 2-0 lead in the five match ODI series and third match will be played at Old Trafford on the 8th September.
