Australian pace bowling spearhead, Mitchell Starc, has said that Australian team has come to a long way after the exit of Mickey Arthur from the coaching role and added that the appointment of Darren Lehmann to the position, has brought the players closer as he said, “I didn’t have too much time with him … he obviously had his different theories. He was a nice guy. Our team has changed immensely since he’s been put out of the job … we’re a lot closer.
“Boof’s (Lehmann) obviously brought his own coaching theories and concepts. The group has obviously changed personnel-wise as well, so we’ve developed massively as a squad since the time of Mickey Arthur, and I think all for the better,” he added.
Starc added that both Lehmann and Arthur have the different style of coaching and training, also both have a different experience at international level, “One probably rode the game a little bit more and I think at times found it hard to watch, whereas Boof instils a lot of confidence in you. He’s got that laid-back, old-school attitude but doesn’t sugar-coat anything. That’s what this young group needs as well … some hard truths sometimes,” Starc added.
Arthur’s stint as the coach fo Australian cricket team came under scanner when four players viz Mitchell Starc, Shane Watson, James Pattinson and Usman khawaja were ousted from the team due to homework gate. Currently, Arthur is the coach fo Pakistan national team and they have performed well under his guidance, barring that abortive tour to New Zealand.
Mitchell Starc has grown up from a rookie to the spearhead of Australian bowling line-up since the retirement of Mitchell Johnson and now leads the fast bowling line-up assisted by Josh Hazelwood.
The Australian team is set to kick off the three-match Test series against Pakistan from December 15 with the first game to be played at Brisbane with a pink ball. It will be an interesting contest between the Darren Lehmann-led Australian team and the Mickey Arthur headed Pakistan team. It will not just be a battle of two teams but also the battle to prove supremacy between the two coaches.
