India all-rounder Axar Patel is targeting a comeback after March, once he fully recovers from the thumb injury, which ruled him out of the limited-overs series against England.
Axar Patel landed on his thumb accidentally after a failed attempt to catch Liam Dawson on the boundary rope in the final Test at Chennai.
“I hope to be fully fit by the second week of March as the injury will take two and a half months to heal. I need to get back my rhythm and the positive mindset to return to my best.
“I will get my bandage removed on Tuesday. I will travel to Bangalore in the first week of February for rehabilitation,” Axar said.
IPL might be the first tournament that Axar will participate in after he gets back on the field. That will also be the only competition for him where he’ll have to prove his case for the Champions Trophy.
Axar, India’s top-ranked bowler (9) in the ICC ODI Rankings, was also disappointed about the fact that he could not play the Ranji Trophy final at Indore, where Gujarat won the cup for the first time, defeating the 41-time Champions Mumbai.
“It was my bad luck that I did not play with my teammates in the finals of the Ranji trophy and I felt very disappointed. However, to come handy to my Gujarat Ranji teammates, I decided that I should be with them for the entire five days in Indore so that I could share my experience and also encourage my teammates who did a fantastic job in reaching the final,” the all-rounder concluded.
