Bangladesh team has been going through serious problems in the recent past and also they are yet to find a single international win in this calendar year. They had a rough patch in the home series against India recently where they lost 2-0 in the 3-match ODI series. Also, one of their most reliable all-rounders, Shakib Al Hasan got himself involved in a spat with a spectator and as a result of that, he is presently serving a ban of 6-months from International Cricket.
Amidst all these dark clouds, the Bangladeshi team management has announced the 15-men squad for the 3-match ODI series against the mighty West Indies in West Indies in the very next month.
There has been some major changes in the squad. Opening batsman, Imrul Kayes has been recalled in the squad. Kayes replaced Shakib who is at the present moment out of international cricket. Shakib apologized for his guilt and also appealed against the ban last week but Bangladesh Cricket Board is reluctant to consider the appeal prior to the West Indies series.
The chief selector of BCB, Faruque Ahmed said that it is indeed very difficult to replace a player of Shakib’s calibre. He is a perfect all-rounder and puts up vital contributions both with the bat and the ball. He fills the role of 2 players. BCB has opted to replace his spot by a regular batsman as it is felt that Bangladesh bowling attack is quite strong enough.
Also, recently Imrul Kayes has been in a good nick and it might well come handy for the team. The opening pair of Bangladesh has flopped consistently. So, Kayes might be a good replacement to either of the opening batsmen.
Also, Rubel Hossain has found his spot in the team by replacing the all-rounder, Ziaur Rahman.
The first two ODIs will be held on August 20 and 22 AT Grenada while the final ODI is scheduled to take place at St. Kitts on August 25.
Bangladesh team will arrive West Indies on the 13th August and in addition to the 3-ODIs, will also play a T20 international.
Bangladesh squad: Mushfiqur Rahim (captain, wicket keeper), Tamim Iqbal, Anamul Haque, Shamsur Rahman, Mominul Haque, Rubel Hossain, Nasir Hossain, Mohammad Mahmudullah, Mohammad Mithun, Abdur Razzak, Mashrafe Mortaza, Sohag Gazi, Taskin Ahmed, Imrul Kayes, Al-Amin Hossain.
