After narrowly losing the first test match against England by 22 runs, the Bangladesh captain Rahim has asked for more test matches as compared to other test playing nation countries. Bangladesh played their hearts out before losing on the fifth day.
Bangladesh played their first test match in the year 2000 against India. Since then they have only played 94 test matches. In the 94 test matches they have won 7 and lost 72 matches. They have won 2 against West Indies and rest of the 5 matches against Zimbabwe. As compared to other test playing nations like India, New Zealand, England they get lots of oppurnity to play the longer format of cricket.
In the first test match against England, Bangladesh bowlers did an excellent job and while batting they almost chased down the target of 286. Bangladesh are much improved side in ODI cricket defeating Zimbabwe, Pakistan, South Africa, India, Afghanistan. They lost their sixth series at home losing to England 1-2.
Bangladesh has shown that they can compete with the best teams in the world. Before this test match they did not play a test match for the previous 15 months. West Indies have too been struggling to find form in test matches losing the test series against India and also Pakistan in UAE.
Bangladesh have good solid base in test matches but they need more experience of playing in tough situations so that the players can learn to handle the important stages of a test match. They will play the second test match against England from 28th October and if they can perform well there too then Bangladesh would get a chance to play more test matches against top ranked teams in the world.
It is important that Bangladesh should improve their technique against top quality bowling and make sure that they use the experience into match situations.
