Bangladeshi Boy Dies After Being Struck By a Ball In the Chest

Three years ago the whole cricket fraternity was stunned when a ball struck at the base of the skull Of Phil Hughes, and he died due to bleeding in the brain. This incidence raised several questions on the safety measures taken in the game. Philip Hughes death brought sorrow and sadness as he was one of the most popular and loved the player in the Australian side. Not only in Australia, but he was also one of the most loved players with his contemporaries as well.
Since this incidence, the ICC has taken some major measures towards the safety of the players. Equipment companies have also improvised with the protection gears. Helmets have an addition of a plastic part to protect the base of the skull.
Even after such measures, cricket has had incidences in which a player or an umpire has died after being hit by a ball. In a recent incident, a boy in Bangladesh died after being struck by a ball in the chest while umpiring in a cricket match. The police said, Rafiqul Islam, age 17 was declared dead at Dhaka medical college hospital after being rushed there in critical condition. The incidence took place at the Balur Math ground in Dhaka.
Local police Chief Enamul Haque said:
“A group of youths were playing cricket in the field and the boy was the umpire. He collapsed on the field after a ball hit him in the chest.”
“He is from a very poor family. His father is a rickshaw-puller and mother works as a housemaid. They buried him last night.”
