Barinder Sran’s short cricket career has been marred by injuries so far. The left-arm pacer made a memorable debut after an impressive three-wicket haul against Australia earlier this year but he was banished soon after, following ordinary performances in next two games. It was followed by an injury in his left shoulder that kept him out of action for quite long. He returned to the field during this year’s Indian Premier League and impressed one and all with his brilliant bowling. His good showing with the ball was rewarded as he was selected for the limited overs tour of Zimbabwe and he impressed again.
He was also selected for India A squad for the Australia tour but the injuries have once again hindered his progress. A foot injury ended his Australia tour without playing. Mumbai pacer Shardul Thakur replaced him in the team.
Talking to Hindustan Times, the pacer expressed his disappointment.
“I was looking forward to the Australian tour. The ODIs followed by the four-day games would have given me ample chances, and the pitches would have suited my style of bowling. It was disappointing to have my foot injured a day before the first game of the quadrangular series,” he said.
The pacer’s right foot was injured while bowling in the nets at Townsville ahead of the first ODI match against Australia ‘A’. He returned home and was advised six weeks rest.
“I was eyeing a good show in Australia. The fact that New Zealand is coming to India for ODI as well as Test series was at the back of the mind. A good outing could have got me into the Test team. Sadly, the injury happened and now I am sitting at home and missing the cricket action,” added Sran.
Sran claimed that India A coach Rahul Dravid stood by him during the tough time and had words of encouragement before he left for India.
“Rahul sir was happy to see me bowl in the nets. He was also happy to see improvement in my fielding skills. He was disappointed on learning about my injury.
“He told me to not lose heart and get back home with a positive frame of mind. He told me that I have to be brave and patient with the recovery as lot of cricket is coming up. His assurance and encouragement is keeping the spirit going in me. Once I am back on my feet and bowling, I would be aiming to do well in the domestic circuit for Punjab and make an impression,” said Sran.
