With the first semi final to be played between South Africa and New Zealand tomorrow at Auckland it promises to be an exciting battle between the captain McCullum and AB De villers. Both of the teams have played some good cricket to reach the semi finals especially NewZealand who have won all the matches so far while AB De Villers’ South Africa lost 2 matches in the league stages against India and Pakistan but played brilliantly against Sri Lanka in the quarter finals.
In the 7 matches so far played NewZeleand Brendon Mcllum has been aggressive with the bat and in the field also. They have done all the things right so far and needs to do the same against South Africa in the semi final. This NewZeleand team has an aggressive batsmen like Guptil who scored 237, McCullum who has provided the team with quick fire starts, Kane Willamson has also contributed, Ross Taylor, Corey Anderson, Grant Elliot and the bowlers have done a tremendous job for the captain by putting pressure on the opposition. South Africa have played well so far but they need to play aggressive cricket if they need to pose a challenge to the home team in front of packed crowd in Eden Park, Auckland. The bowlers need to bowl aggressively and the batsmen has to come to the party especially AB De Villers. AB De Villers needs to captain well as he did in the quarter finals against Sri Lanka where South Africa won the match by 9 wickets.
With both team looking to reach their first final in their World Cup history, pressure will be on both captains to play their best game and come out with flying colors. Everybody knows that South Africa have the habit of choking in the knock out games.
It will be a test of their skills, nerves and the ability to tackle pressure situations. De Villers is an aggressive batsman who needs to play an attacking game with bat. He has been on spot with the field placement with such small dimensions in this ground. McCullum has demanded a full support from countryman for this match and AB De Villers has to handle the electric atmosphere in the ground.
McCullum has been hitting the ball well by giving a quick fire start to the team which has provided the solid foundation for the team to get huge scores while South Africa captain AB De Villers has been in excellent form hitting a breathtaking 162 off 66 balls in the tournament. He can disturb the line and length with his innovative strokes.
This year McCullum captaincy has been aggressive winning the ODI series against Sri Lanka and Pakistan while South Africa won the ODI series against West Indies. With very good batsmen on each side it should be an exciting battle. No wonder both teams will be nervous and tensed before the match.
McCullum will be eager to continue their form in the semi finals while AB De Villers has played an attacking game if they have to defeat this ruthless home team. A captain who wins the toss they should bat first and post a big total so that the other team will be under pressure. De Villers needs to remind them that they are capable and can defeat the best team in the World but Mcullum will be ready for this fierce battle.
