Mahendra Singh Dhoni, Indian cricket’s most successful captain, will have to wait for more time to see himself on screen as BCCI asked to stop the project till the Indian Captain quits the sport. Earlier, MSD has given his nod to this biopic to which is to be directed by Neeraj Pandey.
It is known that the star player has demanded Rs 40 crore for giving away the rights for making the film on his life. According to the grapevine, Sushant Singh Rajput was expected to play the role of the Indian Cricket Team’s Captain Cool. The actor reportedly met with Dhoni and had a long chat too. Now to spoil it, the BCCI (Board of Control for Cricket in India) has told MS Dhoni that his life cannot be pictured till he continues to play professional Cricket.
“MSD has no choice but to comply,” said a friend of Dhoni who is close to the development, adding that the Rs 40 crore-demand had taken the planned film’s budget to over Rs 100 crore. “To begin with, it was not a commercially viable project because a sports drama, even on a game as popular as cricket, has a niche audience. But the real roadblock came from BCCI. If we do go ahead with the film it will only happen after MSD’s career on the field has come to an end,” the friend added.
